In November, Cinelimite hosted Arnaldo Albuquerque: Teresina Animations in Focus, a live YouTube conversation with film critic Ana Rita Meneses (Teresina) and Bruno Baker from the Arnaldo Albuquerque Archive, dedicated to the Super 8 animated films of Piauí’s multimedia artist Arnaldo Albuquerque (1952–2015). The event was part of the program Arnaldo Albuquerque: Animated Fragments Theresina, presented by Cinelimite, the Brazilian Association of Audiovisual Preservation, and UFPI, and it marked the first time Albuquerque’s Super 8 animations were shown online in 2K—digitized at UFPI in 2022 through the Digitalização Viajante project (IDFB Cinelimite x ABPA). Now available on our website, the conversation provides historical and artistic context for Albuquerque’s work—shaped by cinema, comics, typography, and photography—and reflects on the place of these animations within Teresina’s film culture and Brazil’s underground production.
