Alfredo Chicca (02/02/1915) was the son of Italian immigrants Alfonso Chicca and Marina Incisi. He worked as a newspaper assistant and later as a gas station attendant, during which time he discovered a passion for auto parts. Through hard work, he became the owner of three shops specializing in imported car parts in the city of São Paulo. A self taught photographer and cinematographer, he learned on his own the secrets of the machines that capture a moment forever. He married Wanda Soares in 1937 and had two sons, Wanderley and Marcio.
The films in the collection were made with a Paillard Bolex L8 from 1942, purchased for Marcio’s baptism. Alfredo documented family trips, gatherings with friends, outings, and other everyday moments in the city of São Paulo, as well as in the countryside and along the coast of the state, and even in the city of Rio de Janeiro. It was Marcio who inherited the camera, the projector, and the 8mm reels, so often watched by the family.
