On July 2nd at 6:00 PM (EST), we will host a live discussion on O Profeta da Fome (1970), directed by Maurice Capovilla, bringing together the film’s cinematographer Jorge Bodanzky, film critic Ela Bittencourt, and moderator Eric Barroso. The conversation will address the film’s singular position within Cinema Marginal and Brazilian cinema of the 1970s, exploring its visual strategies, its critique of media consumption and cultural colonialism, and the paths of its national and international reception. Drawing on Bodanzky’s firsthand experience on set and Bittencourt’s critical perspective, the event proposes a careful reappraisal of the film and of Capovilla’s still underestimated legacy. The event will take place online, with free registration via Zoom.
